MSM shows promise for hair loss
EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF TOPICALLY APPLIED METHYLSULFONYLMETHANE AND THEIR COMBINATION WITH MINOXIDIL SOLUTION FOR IMPROVEMENT OF HAIR GROWTH IN MALE MICE.
We explored the potential of Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) as a treatment to minimize hair loss. In our study, we used twenty male Wister Albino mice, carefully dividing them into four groups to test different treatments: a control group with distilled water, a group treated with Minoxidil, one with MSM, and a group receiving a combination of MSM and Minoxidil.
Over the course of the study, we observed that the mice given MSM experienced notable improvements compared to the control group. Specifically, hair growth increased, and hair follicle numbers were significantly higher in the groups treated with MSM, whether alone or in combination with Minoxidil.
Additionally, we found a reduction in tissue levels of 8-isoprostane—a marker of oxidative stress—in the medicated groups, pointing to MSM’s antioxidant properties. There was also an increase in vascular endothelial growth factor, suggesting enhanced blood supply to the hair follicles.
Our overall conclusion is that MSM shows promise in reducing hair loss through its remarkable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in male mice. This research indicates that MSM could be a valuable ally in the fight against hair loss.

Reduces postpartum hair loss
Posting a review from my husband's account. My husband originally bought this to help me get sulfur in my system to ward off mosquitoes, but little did I know this product is fantastic for hair and skin! After seven months postpartum, I was experiencing significant postpartum hair loss, losing handfuls of hair. Fortunately, that has completely slowed down, and my hair is already starting to regrow around the edges. Additionally, the stretch marks on my tummy have tightened a bit. I’ve been taking three a day for two weeks and am excited to continue.

Dramatic reduction noted
This dramatically reduces hair loss! After turning sixty, my shedding increased. I suspect the reason is that I hadn't taken MSM for some time. Since restarting it a week ago, my hair loss has markedly decreased! I initially used MSM for joint support but found its positive impact on my hair surprising. I may have individual responses to it, but for me, it's truly a saviour.

Less hair loss observed
Taking MSM has made my skin plump. I had joint pain, but after I began taking it, the discomfort eased. Importantly, I've noticed significantly less hair loss; when washing my hair, there was much less in the drain. I've never felt such results before and will continue taking it!
Hair loss, also known as alopecia, is a common condition that affects both men and women, characterized by the thinning or complete loss of hair from the scalp or other areas of the body. It can occur due to various factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, medical conditions, and environmental factors. The most prevalent type of hair loss is androgenetic alopecia, often referred to as male or female pattern baldness, which typically results in a receding hairline or thinning crown in men and overall thinning in women.
In addition to genetic predisposition, hair loss can be triggered by stress, poor diet, certain medications, and underlying health issues such as thyroid disorders or autoimmune diseases. There are various treatment options available, ranging from over-the-counter products like minoxidil to prescription medications and hair restoration procedures, depending on the severity and cause of hair loss. It's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the most appropriate treatment plan tailored to individual needs and conditions.
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a naturally occurring sulfur compound that is often used as a dietary supplement. It is found in various fruits, vegetables, grains, and animal products, but its concentration in these foods is relatively low. MSM gained popularity for its potential health benefits, particularly in the realms of joint health, anti-inflammatory effects, and skin care. Many users report improvements in symptoms related to osteoarthritis and joint pain when using MSM supplements.
The mechanism behind MSM's effects is believed to be related to its ability to support the body's production of collagen, which is essential for maintaining healthy cartilage and connective tissues. Additionally, MSM is thought to have antioxidant properties that might help combat oxidative stress, further promoting joint and overall health. However, while many anecdotal reports support these claims, scientific research on the efficacy of MSM is still ongoing. As with any supplement, it's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating MSM into your regimen, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking other medications.
MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, is a naturally occurring sulfur compound that has garnered attention for its potential benefits in various health areas, including hair growth. Some proponents of MSM suggest that its anti-inflammatory properties can improve scalp health and promote stronger hair follicles, which may help mitigate hair loss. Although anecdotal evidence is widely circulated, scientific studies specifically linking MSM to significant hair growth or hair loss prevention are limited. However, some users report positive outcomes when incorporating MSM into their hair care routine, particularly when combined with other beneficial ingredients like biotin or collagen.
If you're considering adding MSM to your regimen for hair health, it may be worth exploring topical applications or supplements. However, it’s essential to approach such treatments with realistic expectations and consult a healthcare professional if you have underlying issues contributing to hair loss. They can provide personalized advice and help you determine the most effective treatment options based on your needs.
Based on user reviews, it generally takes a few weeks to a couple of months to see positive results from taking this supplement for hair loss. Some users reported seeing a marked reduction in hair loss as quickly as one week after starting the treatment, while others indicated that noticeable improvements occurred within two months of consistent use (Read Review)(Read Review). For instance, one user specifically noted that their hair loss ceased after three months of taking the supplement in conjunction with other hair health products (Read Review).
Additionally, several reviews suggest that the effects may be cumulative, implying that ongoing use could lead to gradual improvements over time. For example, one individual mentioned that they observed visible results after one month of use, which included less hair loss and shinier hair (Read Review). Therefore, while the timeline varies by person, users consistently encourage patience and regular intake to maximize the supplement's effectiveness for hair restoration.
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) has been gaining attention for its potential as a hair loss treatment, backed by scientific research. In a study involving male Wister Albino mice, those treated with MSM showed significant improvements in hair growth compared to a control group. The research indicated not only an increase in hair follicle numbers but also a reduction in oxidative stress markers among mice receiving MSM, which points to its antioxidant properties. Furthermore, the study highlighted an increase in vascular endothelial growth factor, suggesting that MSM may enhance blood supply to hair follicles, which is crucial for healthy hair growth [1].
This study suggests that MSM could be an effective supplement for those looking to combat hair loss, particularly through its dual action of reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. While these findings are promising, it's important to note that the research was conducted on animal models, and further studies involving human subjects would be necessary to fully understand its efficacy in treating hair loss in people. Overall, MSM appears to offer potential as a valuable asset in the realm of hair loss solutions [1].
Users report a notable improvement in hair loss symptoms after incorporating MSM into their routine. Many reviewers indicate that they have experienced a significant reduction in hair shedding, often within weeks of starting the supplement. For example, one user noted that after restarting MSM, their hair loss markedly decreased just a week later (Read Review). Another reviewer shared that taking MSM, in conjunction with other treatments, helped halt their post-COVID shedding (Read Review). Several users also commented on improvements in hair appearance, with mention of shinier hair and greater thickness after regular use of MSM (Read Review)(Read Review).
While the timeline for results varies, many note that continued use appears to yield cumulative benefits. Users have connected their use of MSM with visible changes, such as stopping hair loss and even promoting new hair growth in some cases, where improvements were noted over a span of two months or longer (Read Review)(Read Review). These anecdotal experiences highlight that while individual results may vary, consistency and an open mindset towards long-term supplementation can foster positive outcomes for hair health.
Based on user reviews, many individuals report positive experiences when combining MSM with other hair health supplements to address hair loss. For instance, one user mentioned significant results after starting MSM alongside other hair supplements, noting a remarkable improvement in hair growth and a reduction in hair loss (Read Review). Another reviewer corroborated this by sharing their success in using MSM in conjunction with collagen peptides and silicon. They remarked that this combination yielded good results in their hair health journey (Read Review).
Additionally, several users have shared their experiences of taking MSM along with biotin and other prescribed treatments, noting that this combination has led to a cessation of hair loss and even new hair growth. For example, one user reported that after taking MSM with biotin for three months, they saw a marked decrease in hair shedding (Read Review). Overall, reviews indicate that combining MSM with other supplements can enhance the effects of treatment for hair loss, supporting the notion of a multifaceted approach to hair health.
Based on user reviews, there is a range of reported dosages for MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) used to treat hair loss, but many users seem to find success with about 3 to 5 grams daily. For example, one user noted taking three capsules a day (with each capsule containing 1000 mg) and experienced a noticeable decrease in hair loss after about a month (Read Review). Another user mentioned dosing around four to five capsules per day to combat postpartum hair loss, which also showed effective results (Read Review).
Some users reported beginning with a higher dose of 2000 mg three times a day, later reducing it due to the effectiveness they noticed (Read Review). Overall, while individual responses may vary, many users seem to align around a lower dosage being effective for reducing hair loss when taken consistently over time.
